F. Peart & Co helps Hartlepool based charity get 'arty'

March 2012

Members of Hartlepool based charity, Artisan, are now fully equipped and ready to get in touch with their artistic side, thanks to a generous donation from local heating oil supplier, F. Peart & Co.

Artisan, based in the Hartlepool Enterprise Centre, Brougham Terrace, is a new charity for adults suffering from mental health difficulties.  The recently established scheme aims to help people with their problems through the medium of art, offering drop-in sessions to the community on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

The £100 donation from Hartlepool based F. Peart & Co, who has been supplying heating oil and diesel to the region for 80 years, has enabled the charity to purchase much needed paint and art supplies.

The new supplies will be used by members to create a number of artistic pieces, including sculptures and large wall murals.  The group also hopes to produce paintings to sell to the general public, which will help fund the charity and allow them to grow.

The donation was made as part of F. Peart & Co’s charitable bursary scheme, after Anita Sewell, a founding member of Artisan, decided to contact the company.  As part of F. Peart & Co’s commitment to the local community, the scheme aims to support worthwhile causes in the North East and provide an extra helping hand to those in need.

Speaking about the donation, Anita said: “We set up Artisan to help local people in Hartlepool with their mental health difficulties, through the relief of art.  At the moment we have about 20 members who come to our sessions, it is a chance for them to be around people who understand their day-to-day problems, and to have a creative outlet from them.

“The donation from F. Peart & Co has been enormously helpful, as it has enabled us to buy paint which can be very expensive, especially the sort we need for the wall murals.  Without these crucial supplies, the group would not be able to function, so we are very grateful.”

Laura Jackson, Business Manager at F. Peart & Co, commented: “We were delighted to donate money from our bursary scheme to such an important charity in the heart of Hartlepool.  We hope that the money we have provided will prove to be helpful to the members of Artisan and allow them to unleash their creativity and get painting.

“The bursary scheme is our way of extending our support to everyone in the area and keeping in touch with the communities we are a part of and work hard for.”

As loyal supplier to the region, providing heating oil and diesel to rural and remote communities, F. Peart & Co launched the charitable bursary scheme in November 2011 to support local community groups, charities and sports teams who need a helping hand.
